Taming the Waves

When obsessive thoughts come crashing through the mind like tumultuous waves, remember each has a beginning, a crest and then an ending. All things are impermanent, including emotions, why not allow them to come and go instead of obsessively clinging to them? Our true being is like the ocean, and thoughts? They are simply waves – sometimes delightful, playful – other times, unrelentingly harsh and angry. If we make ourselves small – thinking we are separate, isolated waves – we are swept across life's chaotic surface. If we consider ourselves one with the ocean, how could we ever be held captive by one insignificant wave?

You are the ocean, you are not the wave.
