If there is anyone out there who still doubts that America
is a place where all things are possible, who still wonders
if the dream of our founders is alive in our time, who still
questions the power of our democracy, tonight is your answer.
It's the answer told by lines that stretched around schools
and churches in numbers this nation has never seen, by people
who waited three hours and four hours, many for the first time
in their lives, because they believed that this time must be
different, that their voices could be that difference.
It's the answer spoken by young and old, rich and poor, Democrat
and Republican, black, white, Hispanic, Asian, Native American,
gay, straight, disabled and not disabled.
We are, and always will be, the United States of America.
– President Elect Barack Obama
I don't own a television anymore, so I watched the election returns via live feed online while skyping with Mark, my friend over in Great Britain. Yes, people stayed up over in Europe until 4am to watch history being made on the other side of the pond. I don't know if Obama will be able to inspire us to work together for healthy, lasting change or not, but I do know a giant step was made by this country yesterday – an enormous step toward equality and hope in America.

AMEN! It still almost feels surreal, doesn't it? I can't wait to see him roll up his sleeves and get to work.

Just the sight of such a gracious couple, their delightful children and the love they all share is an inspiration to all. The anti-Obama emails continue so I don't know if he can pull this diverse country together, but if he cannot then I don't know anyone who can. Obama showed grace, kindness, hope, fairness and calm throughout his campaign so I hope those who distrust him will go back and read McCain's speach where he said Obama was his president and that we all must work together. Obama needs our prayers, metta and good will every day from this minute onward.
