My friends Nancy, Angela, Bob, Andy and I got to see Ben Sollee live at IOTA – a small music venue/cafe where a surprising array of impressive musicians perform in Arlington, Virginia. This gig was at an odd time... 3pm... so the beer wasn't flowing due to the early hour, but the audience delightfully small and cozy. We were all in high spirits after slurping down quesadillas and my favorite Tommyknocker Butthead beer at a pub up the street beforehand. If you've never had Tommyknockers Butthead Bock, I'm tempted to feel sorry for you, but that's an entirely different post...

... if you ever get a chance to Ben Sollee live, jump! This guy is just so unique. I'd yet to hear anyone pick the cello while singing bluesy folk music before seeing him with the Sparrow Quartet in September. I can only imagine what this 20-something ball of talent and refreshing idealism will do as his career progresses. A new song, It's Just a Song inspires one to consider if change is possible and be thankful for the beauty in our lives. I suspect he'll be a big name someday... i hope so.

Lucky you!! Sounds like plenty of fun. I'll keep my eye out for him. Do you know if he is just local or traveling talent.
