I took this shot last week on a picture-taking stroll for a web site I'm creating for the Georgetown House Tour, which happens in April next year. There were a surprising amount of Halloween decorations up already, and I was pleasantly surprised to see the leaves beginning to change at the tippy top of many of the maple trees. The neighborhood is tre shi shi in certain areas. Politicians, lawyers, bankers... pay premium prices to live in the beautiful Victorian rowhouses lining the cobblestone sidewalks there.
As I walked by this particular house, the dog in the doorway lifted his head and raised his eyebrows at me. He seemed a tender-hearted soul, momentarily curious about my camera. After a couple of shots his interest waned and he went back to napping in the shadows, confident the mummies could handle the guard duty.
I love the fact I'm taking comfort in the familiarity of spooky, scary Halloween decorations. It's kind of a mixed metaphor... at least the world isn't so crazy people haven't stopped decorating and celebrating our spookiest holiday. On the other hand, since Halloween touches upon our hidden dark sides and the suffering and fear of the human condition, October 31st might be a bigger deal than ever this year.
rambling.. must get back to polishing off spooky e-card animations....
