When you eat a fruit, think of the person who planted the tree.
~ Vietnamese proverb
Nothing comes into existence of it own accord. Fruit doesn't just appear, the orchard must tended, and the seeds must be sown. The earth and sun do their part, and the winds whispers, "grow." Distributors package it up, someone transports it, and the grocer sells it to us. When will we wake up from our forgetting to remember that by ourselves we can do nothing, and nothing exists without the support of so many others? No person, and no country is an island unto itself, we are interconnected.
On an anniversary such as this on 9/11, it can be easy to forget this. Grief must be felt and wounds healed. It's very important to remember, but the world does go on. Our knee-jerk reactions to this event have caused more deaths to Americans than the attacks in 2001. We cannot fight our way toward peace, my friends – peace is the way.
