A new friend of mine from Great Britain informed me that today is St. David's Day in Wales. He's seriously thinking of venturing into the region sometime this weekend in search of the national flower of Wales ~ the holy daffodil! (I know, I made it sound as though he's in search of the Holy Grail, but at this time of year, it sort of is one.)
According to a web site devoted to the saint, every self-respecting man, woman and child would be celebrating St. David's Day in one way or another in Wales today. Even though there's nary a bloom, not even a crocus in sight outside my apartment and I've not been to Wales (yet), I decided I must be self-respecting and Wales-respecting enough to do my part and post my own little harbinger flower.
Pin a daffodil on the lapel of your heart, Spring will soon be upon us!

"The holy daffodil".... I like that, and your beautiful image. We have them blooming all over the place here now. Spring is just around the corner!

Yes, I believe he is doing a good thing. The Dhammapada says that the man who seeks flowers shall conquer this world and the world of death with all its gods.

I am so glad Spring is just around the corner............... the temp is 32^, the north wind is howling and flapping the flags around like flimsy handkerchiefs and I am bundled in a heavy sweater for the dampness seeps through the house through unknown places. A few brave green shoots are starting to poke through the earth after four days of Spring warmth but they just may be sorry they were the first adventurous plants to check out the sunshine. Think I will force daffodiles next year in time for St. David's Day. Sounds like a great idea.

This is really so beautiful Susan! Daffodils are the favorite flower of both my husband and I. What a lovely picture and the story with it is wonderful as well.
