Archives Through Portrait Window

Archive Portrait ~ Canon 30d

Situated a couple blocks north of the National Archives, the National Portrait Gallery is worth a visit for the architecture alone. The structure also houses the Smithsonian's American Art Museum, and one can easily spend an entire day soaking up the history and creativity oozing from every corner. Poet Walt Whitman worked in the building when it housed the US Patent office and described it as "the noblest of Washington buildings." And President Lincoln held his second inaugural ball in the grand hall just 6 weeks before his assassination just blocks away at Ford's Theater.

I've visited the museum several times since it's renovation just over a year ago, with my most recent outing focusing on the retrospective of painter, John Alexander, whose work was so brilliant in its whimsical satire I could barely contain my enthusiasm for what I was seeing. More on that on a later date, perhaps. If you happen to live in DC or will be visiting someday, make sure you hop up a few blocks up from The Mall and visit this jewel of a museum.

Yes, I realize the window isn't perfectly straight... cut me some slack, I've been working on my TAXES all weekend. THE HORROR!

It's perfect, just the way it is. Life is perfect, just as it is in "square 1".

Gee, I didn't even notice the window isn't perfectly straight!!!!! People never see the mistakes we see in our own work.

How are taxes coming???
