This image was shot just ahead of a waterfall in Deep Creek a couple weekends ago. The sky was spitting out flurries and the water racing over the falls was foam-filled green. This image says "January" to me. Overcast, bitter cold, beautiful, but nonetheless dreary.

Speaking of dreary... my leg has finally found it's home in a cast, and the deepest, darkest rainy day is dramatizing outside my studio window. The airplanes are booming directly overhead on their approach to DC Reagan National – closer than usual – and a new neighbor has moved in who revs his incredibly loud diesel truck up at 6am every morning, allowing it to gurgle and moan for about 10 consecutive minutes under my bedroom window. A friend emailed today and said, "existence is a challenge," another friend reported she was immersed in a dark puddle of thoughts and confusion. A fellow blogger reported everyone she knows seems to be down lately, and I have a funeral to attend on Saturday. This can mean only one thing:

We've all been immersed in something called January.


Thank GOD Valentine's Day, the day of abundant joy and splendor, is just around the corner. You better watch your step, February... I've got my eye on you. One false move, and I'll send you MARCHing!

These few weeks always seem the hardest, don't they? We're waaaay over the relief from the heat of the summer and anxiously await seeing something green again. Makes me even more grateful for spring! Hugs to you and your ankle dear friend.

Such beautiful words, Susan. The photo certainly says WINTER to me. Indeed, thank goodness for Feb. 14. And take care of that ankle.

Ugh. January is by far my least favorite month. BUT - this is a beautiful picture. Truly beautiful.

I have a funeral to go to this Saturday and I am dreading it. The funeral part, not the remembrance.
