That's a shot of my ankle up there. Unfortunately, there isn't anything sporty or futuristic about it. Something happened when I missed the second to last step while carrying my 40lb suitcase down from the second floor of my mom's house in Kansas City in late December. Off balance, my awkward landing hurt initially, but lasted for what seemed like only a micro-second. After yelping, I walked out whatever happened to my left ankle and didn't give it a second thought. Why would I? There was no swelling to speak of and no pain. Just a simple twist... or so I thought.
A couple weeks, and according to my scale, a few Swedish Gingerbread-induced pounds later, I decided to hurl myself into some serious yoga practice. A passing acquaintance from 2007 who just happened to be a yoga instructor suggested doing several Sun Salutations back to back in an effort to achieve an aerobic level of activity... "Why not burn calories and meditate all at the same time.. for 20 minutes?" I thought. It seemed like a good idea at the time, but I made a colossal mistake in not consulting my left ankle for her opinion. The morning after two consecutive evenings of heavy-duty Sun Saluting, my ankle suddenly screamed "Ouch!" as I scuttled barefoot across the living room floor.
"Ouch?" I asked. What do you mean, "Ouch!" Where in the world did that come from?
"Oh, never mind," Left Ankle replied. "It was nothing. I won't bother you anymore... I promise."
"Okay, then," I said suspiciously, and went on my merry way, pain free for a few more days.
This scenario continued to play out every couple of days ~ sudden pain in my ankle joint while walking normally that disappeared as suddenly as it appeared. I thought it was some quirky weirdness thing and chose to follow Left Ankle's previous advice and forget about it – until early last week, that is. While on the phone with Bagpipe Bob I must have made a wrong step and let out a huge scream as I entered the kitchen.
"Ow! You're killing my ear! Are you okay?" he asked.
"Oh, no! I think something's really wrong with me! It's never hurt this bad." Whimpering, I hobbled a step or two and found my steps were far from pain-free.
"Better get to the doctor Susan," he said, and I dutifully made an appointment for the day after Martin Luther King Day. I had 4 more excruciating steps over the next 4 days, one which left me unable to bear weight on my left leg for a few hours on Friday evening. But here's the weird part ~ after resting, isolating, compressing and elevating for a day or so, it's completely fine... then out of the blue... OUCH! For NO APPARENT REASON! I've come to the conclusion my ankle's come down with a severe case of schizophrenia, which is why I'm referring to it as Sybil now.
I saw the doc on Tuesday, had x-rays taken on Wednesday evening, but the doctor didn't call when he promised, so I still don't know if it's fractured or not. Whether broken, sprained or strained, it'll take 2 months to heal according to Dr. Lee, who seemed a bit perplexed I was still having trouble a month after the initial fall without any bruising or swelling.
Come Monday, I'll let you know what the final say is. {whine, sniffle whine!} I'm still swamped with work, so it's just me, Olympus the Cat, Sybil, and my annoying surplus Swedish gingerbread poundage holding down the fort this weekend.
Woe! I say. Woe is me! (Well, not really... I'm just feeling a teeny bit sorry for myself this evening ;)

Ouch! Our bodies always have a way of humbling us, don't they? Sure hope it's nothing bad. The Travel Channel is always entertaining when I am stuck at home. :c) Hugs!

Bummer. My left knee must be corresponding with your left ankle for I am experiencing the same symptoms..........lots of ice packs and Alevee but the pain continues off and on. Will make an appointment tomorrow. I think all the cold makes it worse.
Pick up one of those good books for a bit of diversion or perhaps with tired eyes from computer work the tv is a better bet. Dare I remind you Pres. Bush will be presenting the State of the Union speach tomorrow night/???
