My mom, brother and I spent my last full day in Kansas City at the Nelson Atkins Museum of Fine Art. If you ever have a chance to visit, do it! The museum may not be as big as the Smithsonian or the Met, but is world-class nonetheless. The new "Bloch Building", a contemporary wing to the museum, was just given top billing by Time magazine for outstanding new architecture for 2007. This is as it should be. A building containing masterpieces should be a work of art itself, and I love the place.
I took this shot just after we ate lunch in the museum's cafe... I was all atwitter it had started to snow... donned my coat and scampered through the revolving door to take a picture of the museum's front lawn which is dotted with whimsical over-sized shuttlecock sculptures by artists, Claes Oldenburg, and Coosje Van Bruggen.
It's nearly impossible not to "watch the birdie" while driving past the museum ~ I think they're just marvelous.
