Unguarded Spaces

Fenced ~ Canon 30d

The real world is beyond our thoughts and ideas; we see it through the net of our desires, divided into pleasure and pain, right and wrong, inner and outer. To see the universe as it is, you must step beyond the net. It is not hard to do so, for the net is full of holes.

~ Sri Nisargadatta

I love this quote, and to me, it reflects the contrasts in the image above ~ the wire and weathered wood juxtaposed with the beauty of an all-accepting ocean just beyond it. The ego constructs walls around our hearts, protecting us from harm. Fenced in by our sense blame, our depth of field becomes so narrow we can't see heaven waiting to connect with us in the heart of every moment.

During certain segments in my life, squeezing through the slats protecting my hurt and dissatisfaction has seemed impossible, but the energy I've exerted toward proliferating my defenses drained me and kept me from fully experiencing the miracle of my life and the beauty surrounding me. We all need to guard our hearts, but if we expect to be truly happy, we must keep them tender and open. The space in-between the fence posts allows us not only to channel our healing into the world, but also to receive the gifts we need in order to fulfill our purpose.Such a task is impossible without taking the first step ~ allowing the soul to remain ajar, awaiting the ecstatic experience.

it's odd, the synchronicity of life. i've been hearing and feeling the word closed in my life - last night i read the following: " -it is the Self escaping into the open.

and today i read your post - makes me aware of the closing down of my heart and the need to be more open. thank you.

oh, how you've reflected exactly the state of mind i'm in lately... in opening up to my own demons, i can feel my spirit opening, inspiring gratitude and marvelous juiciness!

Exactly, Susan. When you dig deep into yourself the soul responds. I have been in that place and there is hope when you do the hard work of being receptive.

A wonderful quote! It's such a delicate balancing act; to protect and stay vulnerable simultaneously.

What a beautiful quote. It's such a delicate balancing act, to open oneself to beauty and yet protect ourselves against pain!
