Sail 1 ~ Canon 30d

The subtlety of light and color and its changing nature never ceases to amaze and inspire me, both as a photographer and a Path Walker. One thing artists might be better at than the rest of world is our highly conditioned ability to pay attention to details and to simply see things. That isn't just the ocean up there, it's slate blue with cream and navy-colored wave tips dancing across the surface, and the clouds aren't white, they're filled with creamy pinks, purples and azure blues.

The great yogis and lamas will tell you nothing is ever as it seems. We're just skimming across the surface of a vast illusion. We think we're just one of many waves in a vast ocean of beings, when really, we are the ocean, we are the sunset, we are shafts of light dancing across the vast sea of awareness.

Taking this trip was so good for me. I was close to being completely submerged in over-thinking before I left, which is always a signal it's time to rest and reflect instead of trying to catch up with the lemmings running just ahead of you.

When surrounded by the chaos and insanity which sometimes mark particular chapters within our cities and communities, we cease being able to hear the song within ourselves and our light grows dim. For me, seeking out the tranquility of nature has always provided the space for many of my built-up illusions to melt away. It's almost as though each cresting wave reflecting light through my lens and onto the sensor on the back of my camera is a metaphor for the eyes of the Soul. Just being and allowing and watching... allowing nature to penetrate one's spirit through the majesty and beauty of creation has a way of imprinting us with goodness.

I'm just an amateur trying to learn about photography, but what you describe is exactly how I feel. I like quiet, stillness, watching. I too have a tendency to overthink sometimes, but going somewhere beautiful and calm sorts that out in a jiffy!

Lovely photo.

Thank you for this. My song was almost inaudible and my light flickering away. Your words reminded me to slow down and really look at things rather than skim over them.
