Rock Sculpture ~ Canon 30d

How seldom we weigh our neighbor in the same balance with ourselves.
~ Thomas Kempis

I shot this image about a month ago while on a hike in the Catoctin Mountains outside of Frederick, Maryland with my friends Robert and Eden. This stone sculpture had been left by another hiker on the side of the path. I now have an urge now to balance rocks on top of each other where ever I go.

Balance. The middle way. Neither holding on nor pushing away. Allowing nature and our lives to run their course. As I teeter and totter on this tenuous path, may I bump into as little furniture as possible, and leave the fragile beings I come into communion with intact.

Namaste.

Some of us call them "cairns." They're markers or memorials of a sort - from where the journey starts to where the journey ends. Each hiker adds his stone to the balance...

There is a poem by John Thiem entitled "Cairns" which can be found on the Internet. It's worth the search.

I love rocks. Balancing rocks are even better. What a great idea! I need to do this in my garden.

The stones seem to be vibrating. There just seems to be such a deep vibration from this. It really resonates with me. Like the chant: NAM-MYOHO-RENGE-KYO. I like chanting because I feel balance when I do. It seems like the rocks are chanting in a sense. All life is chanting and we can chant with it. The vibrations of life, just as it is.
