People usually consider walking on water or in thin air a miracle. But I think the real miracle is not to walk either on water or in thin air but to walk on Earth. Every day we are engaged in a miracle which we don’t even recognize: a blue sky, white clouds, green leaves, the black, curious eyes of a child—our own two eyes. All is a miracle.
~ Thich Nhat Hahn
... and so is floating down a river and encountering the miracle of a great blue heron whose curiosity for you matches your own for him. I couldn't believe... still don't believe... how close this enchanting creature allowed me to be ~ how present. Joan thinks the bird knew we meant no harm. I think it was nothing short of a miracle ~ a gift that filled the present moment so richly and so fully, there was room for nothing but amazement and wonder.

I know exactly how you feel. I had a close encounter with one of those birds in the spring and it still weighs heavy on my mind. It's just so prehistoric looking that it makes you feel like you're looking back in time.

Amazing! What a treat to come upon such a creature and not have them run or fly off, but stop and share the moment with you.

A royal bird who had enough sense to stop and ponder the moment with one lovely lady. How wonderful. You have a moment that you will remember for a lifetime.

It truly was a miracle moment because usually they are gone before you ever get near ... I know, I've tried many times.
