If I keep a green bough in my heart, the singing bird will come.
~ Chinese Proverb
You can tell it from the photograph, but Spring has sprung in Washington. A friend and I spotted a red shouldered hawk about a week ago in a park near his house, so I rented a big-ass lens this weekend. It was with high hopes we ventured out on Saturday afternoon to spot her again, and we DID! But... she circled overhead and never landed. The photo safari wasn't a total loss, I got this sweet, sweet image of Lady Cardinal. Her husband was sitting way over on the other side of the tree, but his back was toward me. I also got a rather good shot of a robin redbreast which I'll share shortly.
The fruit trees are in full bloom, but few leaves have appeared on the trees. These feathered harbingers of Spring were doing their very best to call forth the flowers and greenery ~ certainly here in my heart, they have succeeded.

Great picture. :-) And I love that proverb! I'm going to keep that one with me.

Isn't she lovely? Spring has sprung in full force here and now they are saying we'll have lows in the 30's later this week...aaaackkkkk!

I love these gentle ladies, with their drab brownish-red coloring. They are the height of decorum, while their flashy red mates draw all the attention. We have them in the bamboo behind our house...I've seen one pair regularly, though some years as many as three pairs have had their nests back there. They like the holly to the side of our house as well, and the kids often spot the male while we're having meals.
Great shot of her, all puffed up and settled on her branch. I hope Mr. Flashy brought her back some breakfast!
