Guide From Beyond ~ Canon 30d

This being human is a guest house
Every morning a new arrival.
A joy, a depression, a meanness,
some momentary awareness comes
as an unexpected visitor.
Welcome and entertain them all!
Even if they are a crowd of sorrows,
who violently sweep your house
empty of its furniture,
still treat each guest honorably.
He may be clearing you out for some new delight.
The dark thought, the shame, the malice,
meet them at the door laughing,
and invite them in.
Be grateful for whoever comes,
because each has been sent
as a guide from beyond.

~ Rumi

This past week I've been meditating on the things I label as "bad" and "good". How often do I grasp and try to hold onto something I think is so amazingly wonderful, only to find out, in retrospect, it was entirely bad for me? Swing the lazy susan around ~ how many times has a person or situation I've despised ultimately taught me lessons I absolutely needed to know to move forward in my life?

As I learn to respond instead of reacting with visceral knee-jerk thinking, the more I open up to my real potential ~ to self-actualization, and authentic learning.

{The Angel among us at the top of this post was shot in historic Hollywood Cemetery during an inspiring and wonderful trip to my old college stomping ground ~ Richmond, Virginia.}
