A dear friend of mine recently got me hooked on mango smoothies, much to the astonishment of my mother, seeing as I have hated mangoes since childhood. But just last month, I conducted a Taste Bud Challenge, purchasing the prettiest mango I could find in an attempt to remove one of the three things on my I Won't Eat That List*. Surprise, surprise! I loved my mango, and have been eating them ever since. Mom says I always hated them because my grandparents had a mango tree in Florida whose fruit, for whatever reason, tasted like metal.
But I digress ~ The image above is not of a mango smoothie... no, no... it's a rose. But a rose by any other name would still smell as sweet and remind me of the mango strawberry smoothies I've been devouring most mornings for breakfast this month.
Yuuuummmmmmmy! What picky habit could you challenge this week? You never know... your tastes might have changed! Maybe... just maybe, challenging a preconception or two is all it takes to learn how to love something or someone you decided was unlovable.
* Other two items on the list ~ MILK in liquid form, and custard (it's a texture thing.)

i find they sometimes have a perfume-y taste to them. my family loves them, i not so much. i'll eat them, but they aren't my favorite - haven't tried them in a smoothie though - thanks for the tip!
i had a wonderful jamacian friend who used to say to me with his rich, deep baritone accent 'do you know how to pick a nice, ripe mango??? take someone with you does.' i think of him every time i stand at the store hoping the one i'm buying are good ones!

Hey Susan... try the Silk Vanilla Soymilk as an alternative. Delicious! Can't say I've ever longed for a mango smoothie, but I'm not a real smoothie girl. More of a Fiber One with blueberries sort of chick...lol.

I can't agree more with the "try something new" mentality. I've never really been one to have sympathy for the "I don't like that" attitude, cause I definately know I hated everything as a kid...and now, I think the only things I don't like to eat are liver & onions, and Chittlins...ew. But...Mangoes are wonderful! I have to recommend staying away from milk altogether....vanilla soymilk is totally the way to go...great on cereal, makes a killer smoothie, and actually pretty decent to drink. I've found that the Nature's Promise (from Giant) tastes the best. :)
