Monarch Brilliance ~ Canon 30d

Butterflies... not quite birds, as they were not quite flowers, mysterious and fascinating as are all indeterminate creatures.
~ Elizabeth Goudge

Indeterminate creatures ~ interesting. I love the description. I want to become one.

Andre Gide once said, "Know thyself! A maxim as pernicious as it is ugly. Whoever observes himself arrests his own development. A caterpillar who wanted to know itself well would never become a butterfly."

Pull out your net
try to define
who she is
that flutters by

A multi-layered
quadruple-winged
complexly curious
indeterminate thing

Thwip! Thwap!
nets can't contain
a soul that moves
then moves again

Pull out your net
and raise it high
you'll never catch
this flutter by!

Listen. You're brilliant. You're amazing. You're wonderfully unique.
You're also dysfunctional and crazy just like the rest of us.
Why not settle into your beauty for a spell?

Instead of overanalyzing ~ just flutter.

Man, what a great shot, Susan!

...and what a nice matching of words.

This shot is so unbelievably clear and the colors are just beautiful.

I just finished helping teach a Bible school class of seven three-year-olds (yeah, that's right, what WAS I thinking?!) and they were the butterflies!

All the pre-schoolers had animal names, and while butterflies aren't particularly Biblical, the butterfly is apparently a symbol of resurrection. Makes sense:)

For the record, I had suggested we call them the Locusts, as in "plague of", but that didn't go over so well...

Ah, Tam! Teaching a swarm of locusts about the bible! wah ha ha! If anyone could do it, I know you could ~ seeing as you've got the cutest two butter-locusts inhabiting your living room every single day.

:)

Hug katie and robert for me!
