Dimensional Seeing

Both of these photographs are of the same subject ~ a sculpted glass orb I found hanging inside of a green house not far from where I live. What made this piece of art so unique was the fingery spires of glass inside of it. The piece required a bit of interaction on the part of the viewer. I could focus on the surface, get lost in the intricate details inside of it, or choose to look straight through it to see and green and yellow colored world on the other side. I loved this piece ~ it looked like a forest made of glass dangling from the ceiling.

For fun, I decided to post these two images. In the first, the lens is focused on the thinnest plane of the globe's surface, sending the interior of the orb into a blur. In the second, I've focused on the "trunks" of the glass trees, allowing the surface to blow out of focus. I'm not sure which one I like better.

Being the metaphor queen that I am, I know there must be a lesson lurking within these crystal planes. Look beyond the surface, dig deeper than you're expected too. Something that seems shallow and hard at first glance could be deeply complex and intricate with a simple twist in the lens of your heart.

They look like paintings...at first, I thought they were some kind of plant image you'd photoshopped:) Very cool.

What I see... Finding a way to break through to the surface in order to find the light where there is potential for growth. Lovely images Susan, just lovely...
