Comments

i realize it's rather uncommon for a blog owner to be the first to comment on an entry, but for some reason, putting some thoughts about the poems above in the comment section feels right to me. Sometimes a poem finds you ~ resonnating across the eardrum in a way that sets a vibration in motion which continues to circulate in and out of ones marrow. Wu men's poem had such an effect on me.

My meditation teacher recited it during one of her talks a couple weeks ago and it struck a chord with me... so much so, I looked it up on the internet as soon as I returned home that evening.

As I worked on today's entry, I was inspired to write some verse of my own sparked by my teacher's dharma talk, wu men's words, and by the many blossoms I have photograhed during these glorious weeks of spring here in DC.

The dots ~ one per line ~ could be interpreted as seconds tick, tick, ticking by as you read the poem. The present moment is always changing, as we are changing. Spring may be transient and fleeting, but the the newness of opening and awakening is always within our reach.

Susan - they're both beautiful. Thanks for commenting. It encouraged me to go back and read the poem with the seconds ticking away. It was even better. I envy you the opportunity to photograph the blossoms. It must be so beautiful.

Your photo reminded me of a verse from a poem by Charles Péguy called "Master of the Three Virtues":

Faith is a great tree,
an oak rooted in the heart of France,
And under the wings of that tree,
  Charity, my daughter Charity shelters
all the distress of the world.
And my little Hope is only that little promise
of a bud which shows itself
at the very beginning of April.

those bursting joys of pink happiness pierced my soul, your words traced the even pattern it made up that tree, flower by flower word by word climbing up into my heart!!
