Calling all Angels

Bodhisattva ~ Canon 30d

a man is placed upon the steps, a baby cries
and high above the church bells start to ring
and as the heaviness the body
oh the heaviness settles in
somewhere you can hear a mother sing

then it`s one foot then the other
as you step out onto the road
how much weight? how much weight?
then it`s how long? and how far?
and how many times before it`s too late?

calling all angels
calling all angels
walk me through this one
don`t leave me alone
calling all angels
calling all angels
we`re cryin` and we`re hurtin`
and we`re not sure why...

and every day you gaze upon the sunset
with such love and intensity
why it`s... it`s almost as if
if you could only crack the code
then you`d finally understand what this all means

but if you could... do you think you would
trade it in
all the pain and suffering?
ah, but then you`d miss
the beauty of the light upon this earth
and the sweetness of the leaving

calling all angels
calling all angels
walk me through this one
don`t leave me alone
callin` all angels
callin` all angels
we`re tryin`
we`re hopin`
we`re hurtin`
we`re lovin`
we`re cryin`
we`re callin`
`cause we`re not sure how this goes

Lyrics ~ Jane Siberry

My photograph of the incense above surprised me. The moment I opened it in photoshop I was struck by how the smoke resembled a whisper of angel wings ~ the angel's heart, a glowing ember. Look some more, and perhaps you'll see the wings curling into the shape of a heart. See it swirling off the edge of the photograph? Happy accidents like this both amuse and inspire me. Sometimes, the creative process takes you down a path you never intended to take. Magic is always there. You have to show up and practice so it can find you, though ~ that's usually when it happens.

Speaking of magic, Jane Siberry's song, "Calling all Angels" is one of my cherished favorites. It's so lovely and so real. We can pontificate and espouse to know all the particulars of our existence on this planet, but at the end of the day, none of us is completely sure of the hows and whys ~ why we suffer so much ~ why we feel so isolated and alone.

When I listen to the song* I come to feel her voice is one of the angels. An angel of mercy, assuring us it's okay to hurt and feel lost as we struggle to move forward in this world. If I push the door further ajar, I come to believe we are the angels she's summoning. We have the capacity to become our own best angels ~ bringing compassion and insight into our hearts. Love, burning in our hearts and filling the world around us with the scent of love.

Sorry if this is a little off-topic, but "Calling All Angels" is on the soundtrack to Pay it Forward. The moment when they play it is perfect and so emotional- It's a great movie- not to mention Kevin Spacey is in it and I can't think of a single movie that he's done that I haven't liked.

It is all so beautiful and tied together with a satin bow. Thanks for sharing all that.

That's what I love about the process. It almost always takes me somewhere I didn't expect and could never have planned.

That song sounded so familiar but I couldn't place where I'd heard it... turns out it was sung by the characters in an episode of Six Feet Under (one of my favorite shows). I really love the incense photos!

Another beautiful gift for me today; one of my favorite parts of blogging is the new music introduced to me. Thanks so much for this reference; I bought the song and I am soaking in it. Thank you so much...

Heather,

I just finished watching the final season of 6 Feet Under... I don't get HBO, so I missed it! (the horror!) Anyway, my favorite episode from all 5 seasons is the one with this song. Ruth, Brenda, her sister, and the assorted women gather around the deceased body of their dear friend, surrounded by candles in the basement of the funeral home. They pass a bong around and begin singing this amazing song. Yes, I said bong. Get over it, or stop stop giggling... whichever your reaction is. Anyway, the camera cuts to show us each of the main characters of the show experiencing the lonliness of their lives. It's one of the most moving and powerful scenes I've ever seen in television. The okayness and presence they embodied in the face of death.
