Untrue to form, I was out the door and shoveling the snow around my car before sunrise yesterday morning. I'm a night person, but the more I shoot for greeting cards, the more I've had to make adjustments that are somewhat antagonistic towards my true nature.
DC got 7 inches of snow, (YIPPEE!) which meant I had a mission to accomplish :: Shoot snow images of the Cathedral and the Baslica Shrine of the Immaculate Conception so Frameable Images could fulfill repeated requests from both locations to have immaculate snow scenes of their holy structures. (was that a mouthful or what?) It's a tall order, see... shooting for both the Episcopal God and the Catholic God. Who goes first? If you choose the wrong one to go first, will the pictures still turn out?*
The roads weren't bad at all. Contrary to poplular opinion, just because a MINI Cooper is small doesn't mean it's a lightweight in the snow. It was just me and a handful of SUV Monsters on the road. See, you don't really need an SUV in DC. Contrary to popular opinion, one can get around town in the snow without a 4 wheel drive gas guzzler.
I've snow-drifted off-topic... sorry!
In the past when I've snuck into the Bishop's Garden during a morning snow, I've been the very first to make footprints. I was a bit disappointed I wasn't early enough this time. When you're the very first to quietly and honorably walk through a magical garden blanketed with new-fallen snow it's like walking into heaven, or taking a lovely journey through a cloud. Surely the first person to walk through the Bishop's Gate yesterday must have felt wonderfully inspired and fortunate!
It was COLD and windy, and my lens kept getting covered with flakes. The shot above attests to this...those blurry areas are snowflakes, but I think it adds to the dreamy quality of the image. Mistakes happen, and sometimes they're good ones ~ Just like life!
I'll post more images soon, of course!

Lovely shot. As a Minn girl, I love the snow, especially the day after a snowfall when it is usually crisp, cold and clear. The sun makes the surface of the snow look like diamonds.

Great shot from the Bishops Garden. Have visited the cathedral and stayed at College of Preachers at least a dozen times - but have never been there when it snowed. Soooo... really looking forward to the rest of the photos you took. In fact - I look forward to all the photos you post. Thank you very much.
