“How beautiful maleness is, if it finds its right expression.?
~ D.H. Lawrence
Ah yes, when it finds its right expression. I love this fountain which stands in the heart of Dupont Circle in DC. I wonder what DH Lawrence was referring to in this quote. I think it's an interesting fit for this image ~ the man in the sculpture is so masculine, strong... there's a seductive quality to the curves in the composition. Dupont Circle is known as the gay neighborhood in town, and as such, I'm sure many people would find this to be the wrong expression of maleness.
How totally misguided a viewpoint this is.
I attended a wonderful party in January that was thrown by a client of mine and his boyfriend. I was accepted by a warm, intellectual and creative group of men for most of the evening, and I had such a wonderful time with them! I've attended "straight" gatherings (whatever that means) where I've walked away feeling as though I had spent the most superficial of evenings, wishing to god I had just stayed home and watched tv. This group of men and women were smart, entertaining and welcoming. Personally, I can't imagine a better or more right expression of manhood than this, and I think a lot of people walking the face of this earth could stand to learn to be more like them.
I feel the richer for having a couple of gay boyfriends. Every girl should have at least one ~
Yours Truly,
"Grace"
