Rob and I were toolin' down a West Virginia road on our way back from Shenendoah, and as we approached a small farm on the left, I wondered out loud, "Why does that cow have a red ribbon on its tail?"
"Ummm, that's not a ribbon, Susan... it's afterbirth." Rob was a genuine cowboy years ago... he knows these sorts of things... even from 100 paces away.
By the time he had finished his sentence, the MINI Cooper was parked on the side of the road and I was bolting across the street with Rob's Canon and 400mm lens in my hand.
The baby was still wet and its fur was all matted and sticky. It was very wobbly but doing an amazing job of keeping it's balance. I felt so lucky to watch the two of them through the lens and shoot these pics... and just look at those tiny little hooves!

What a magical moment to catch! Good going! By the way, I would have wondered if that was a ribbon, too.

Oh, THERE you are! I've been lookin' for ya!
Where ya been, girl? Don't go away like that too often, Susan... We miss you when you're gone!
Wonderful pics, by the way. Reminds me of my days on the farm.
