I carved the ugliest pumpkin of my life over the weekend. It was a "conceptual" piece (as we used to say in art school... read: ugly and nobody gets it). My brother and I came up with the idea of using found objects, and seeing that there are lots of empty beer bottles on hand at the lake, it seemed a natural fit to make beer bottle red-neck jackolanterns. The eyes did glow a nice alien green color, but unfortunately, the brown bottle ears didn't light up at all... I rather like the bush branches that serve as antlers... AGAIN, it's a CONCEPTUAL PIECE! I was just taking aesthetic risks and having some fun.
It was just recently I realized my little digital camera has movie-making capabilities. All I get is dinky little silent films at only 40 seconds a crack, but still, it's kind of fun. Reminds me of shooting super 8 films in a way... I could easily get hooked on it!
What cracks me up, is despite the lack of light coming out of my jackolantern, someone coincidentally took a flash picture just as I was filming it, illuminating my masterpiece for posterity. Seriously... all you can take of my pumpkin is about 1/60 of a second of illumination... as you can see.. it was JUST THAT BAD!
So...here is my goofy and feeble attempt at movie making... it's a Visual-Voice FIRST! Click on this link to view all the entries in the Preston Annual Pumpkin Carving Competition!!!
