The Terd Trail ~ a Memorial

September 14, 2005

There's a foul fowl problem at the reflection pool on the mall. After taking Rob to see the WWII Memorial I thought, "Gee, wouldn't it be nice to walk down to the Lincoln Memorial?"

At the time, I wasn't thinking about the 95 degree heat, and the 200% humidity, or the fact that it was 6pm and all the refreshment stands were closed and we didn't have any water. These facts seemed inconsequential because the reflection pool is a big deceiver ~ it appears to be about 1/3 its actual size. After walking about 10 minutes, I started apologizing for taking him on a wild goose chase.... literally. As you can see from the pic above, the geese have gone wild. Bird doo doo was everywhere ~ there was no escape from it. Even walking across the grass, we found an endless carpet of goosey goo.

"Oh man! We're walkin' the TRAIL OF TERDS, Peap!" Rob gushed. (He calls me Peapod.) "Is this some sort of strange Smithsonian exhibit you didn't tell me about?"

"Umm, yeah." I mumbled, "It's, ummm, an interactive exhibit on the perils of e-coli and salmonella. No, wait... it's... it's a conceptual piece depicting the war in Iraq! Yeah, THAT'S IT! Federally funded POO!"

You know me, I just HAD to take a picture of it. After seeing three memorials, I was in a memorializing sort of mood.

i have heard that 3 geese are equal to one human in the amount of excrament they can produce in a day - they are filthy birds. beautiful to see in the sky, or on the pond, but they make parks uninhabitable.

they've started to spoil the eggs in the nests in canada because they are so overpopulated.

i think you would have probably remembered this memorial even without a picture! ha!
