Today is my one year blogaversary! This will sound cliche, but it really does seem like yesterday when I had this really cool idea, a challenge to myself, really... to begin tossing sand around in my virtual sandbox just to see what might happen.
The reason I started this blog has a lot to do with the fact that I was really sick a year ago. I was about 5 months into what I now know was a chronic sinus infection which would ultimately last for just over a year... the doctors missed it. That's right, I was sick for that long, and I'll tell you what. When you're sick, and no one can tell you why, there are three things happen:
1. You get depressed
2. You get more depressed.
3. You get scared.
4. Oops.. there's an additional one... if you're self-employed, your business slows down, which scares and depresses you even more.
I was at one of the lowest points in my life, and I knew the only thing I could do to pull myself out of it would be to focus on the positive, to be creative ~ not every now and then, but every day. I'm a designer professionally, but creating art for a client is WAY different than creating art for art's sake.
I made a promise to myself to find some beauty in my life, or at the very least, something to be grateful for. Even though my tiny audience consisted of my mom, and a handful of friends, I found just the idea that people could drop in and see what I was doing was a huge motivating factor in my experimentation. The best part is I rekindled a lost interest in photography, which is HUGE. Totally HUGE! Although I had been a professional photographer for 6 years, I hadn't picked up a camera in ages. Visual-Voice gave it back to me. Hooray!
So, after a year, I'd have to say, the experiment is working. I'm happy again! I'm on more solid ground now than I had been in a very long while, and I've met some beautiful people in the process.
Thanks to anyone and everyone who has written to me and commented here. It's pretty amazing to me that people come back and take time out of their day to watch the sand fly ~ Sincerely, it makes me feel very good to know the photographs I take are actually looked at by other people. I do this because it's fun!
Oh, and that cupcake up there is really a muffin. A Chocolate Macadamia Nut Muffin. I'm learning how to celebrate the biggest pleasures in life... the biggest of which is, of course, CHOCOLATE.
BIG thank you to my friend, JOY who paved the way with her blog several months before my blog came into being. She inspired me to join the club. THANKS JOY! Blowing kisses in a Pittsburghish direction!

Happy Bloga... whatever! That cupcake is cruel. I'm back on my diet and avoiding the afternoon sweets I'd recently become accustomed to!

Happy Blogday! :) As the MMMommy of a recently turned two year old blog, I can relate.
To the chocolate, too. Drop it and no one gets hurt.
But I get fat. :)....ter, that is.

I love this blog. It's definitely one of my favorites. And Robert's photos are extraordinary. I love the way you two do it. His big picture and your eye for detail. A good match I'd say. Keep tossing the sand!!
