While playing tourista, we came across this charming Mennonite Family posing in front of the capitol building. I love the pink umbrella. Wish the image was sharper, but it was severely overcast and drizzling at the time.

Wonderful! I'd love to get a few photos of the Amish around here, but it's a big no-no. The children are so precious in their Sunday best.

It's interesting how their poses are so similar to turn-of-the-century photographs. So simple, respectful, and elegant, actually.

When we were living in Memphis at St. Jude during my son's treatment, there was a 19-year old Mennonite boy there getting a bone marrow transplant for leukemia.
His girlfriend was with him, and there were always other Mennonites there to chaperone.
Just like everyone else, sometimes they'd go down to the workout room at Target House in the evening. They'd do the treadmill and the stair machines, dressed just like they are in that photo. The men would keep their big black hats on.
I would have loved to take a photo, but somehow it didn't seem polite to ask.
