Sick Kitten

August 04, 2005

Yesterday, I mentioned I took Mrs. Watson (one of my cats) to the vet because she's been throwing up with relative frequency. Well, I heard back from the hospital this morning. Her bloodwork came back showing moderately elevated liver function levels, and there's no way to know for sure what's wrong without a liver biopsy.

I can't really fathom having a biopsy done on her... not only because of the expense, but also because she's 15 years old. I've watched people go through unbelievable sums of money and heroics to save their pets only to lose them in the end... still this may end up being a very hard choice if her levels don't respond to antibiotic treatment.

I love LIttle Miss W. with all my heart ,and the thought of losing her soon just makes me want to crawl inside of myself and cry in the dark for awhile. I know there are many who would argue with me, but she is the best cat ever. When I lived in Virginia, she always won "Best Patient of the Month" award when I took her in for her checkups. ~ She loves to hang out in my antique rolling cart where I store all my shirts and sweaters. No matter how often I try to keep my clothes neatly stacked they always get jumbled around when she dives in and builds a nest in there.

I just glanced over my shoulder and she's in there now, sleeping and dreaming ~ her little white paws moving back and forh and her eyes fully engaged in REM. How I love that pussycat.

I'm taking the non-invasive approach for now. She'll be on two antibiotics, and some sort of special liver medication for the next month, and then we'll check her blood again in early September and see where she is.

This has been one of those weeks... when does Friday get here?

Such a pretty kitty all warm and blinky in her comfy nest! What a sweety! Can you tell I'm a cat person? ;)

So sorry to hear about your sweet baby's problem Susan. I do hope the medications work for her, but I do think you are doing the right thing by not being overly aggressive at her age. Blessings to you both.

aww... my black cat used to burrow into the linen closet in our old apartment. she looks a lot like yours except younger and no white bottom lip.

give Miss W. my get well wishes!

Wicker, Yep, I can tell you're a cat person. I don't quite understand how anyone can hate cats... most of them are really cool and easy to get along with... unless you refuse to worship them, of course.

;-)

Dog people want to be worshipped.. cat people, are willing to be the worshipper, perhaps.

thanks to all who sent the get well wishes ~ Mrs. Watson seems a bit better today... eating a lot and looking happier. Perhaps it's all the TLC and chicken soup I've eaten on her behalf... we're keeping our paws crossed!

Much love and Light to Mrs. Watson and you through all of it! Natural courses are difficult but perhaps a bit easier given such a long life. I have a sixteen year old Tabby who is getting quite frail but I plan on letting life have its course with her, with bundles of gratitude for having so long with her.

Here is a website that has eye charts for dogs and horses... I suspect a dog eye chart would be pretty similar to a cat chart. The closeups of her eyes today (aug 12) show brown dots. These charts might help you identify what's going on.
