Ladybug, Ladybug!

Ladybug, ladybug fly away home.
Your house is on fire and your children all roam.

If a ladybug lands on you, chant this poem. When it flies away, your wish will come true!

By the way ~ I really had to work hard to get this shot. It was 89 degrees with 5000% humidity in the blazing sun standing in the garden of the Washington Cathedral. Plus, this particular ladybug just wasn't interested in cooperating with me. I spotted her on a dead iris. Hmmm... dead irises just don't make good pictures. So, I coaxed the bug into my hand and gingerly transported her over to this beautiful bell-looking flower. (nope, the picture is not upside down~these blooms hang facing the ground.) Shooting bugs can be enormously frustrating, and this bug's only interest was finding aphids to eat, not posing in the heat for me. I'm pretty sure it wasn't until I chanted the poem that she finally sat still in the perfect spot for 1/2 of a second before she flew away home. I think it's a keeper.

Oh, what a sweet shot Susan! Made me think of earlier this spring when I went out on our screened porch to find seemingly hundreds of ladybugs climbing on the inside of the screen. I spent literally an hour scooping them into my hands and taking them outside to help them fly away. I fully expect that they will thank me by hanging around to devour all the aphids on my dahlias this summer! LOL!

Oh my God...I can see my comments as I type them! Now I can blather at you;)

Great bug pic. We like ladybugs at our house, and ants, and spiders, bees...and dragonflies...
