Macaws are simply amazing!

While my friends were floating down a river wedged inside of over-inflated innertubes, I had the distinct pleasure of photographing these exquisite creatures in Xel-Ha. There were green, blue and scarlet macaws among the 7 I shot, but by far, the scarlets are the show-stoppers. The workers had to shoo me away from them when I got only a foot away with my camera. I spent about 45 minutes photographing them, sharing a shady spot under a protective canopy of palm trees. The really cool closeup is of one parrot preening another's tail feathers. After several minutes of this, the preened got upset with the preener and let out a big SQUAWK!
I don't blame him... if someone got a bit over-zealous while preening my tailfeathers, I'd have something to say about it too.... tee hee.

What wondrous things God makes for us to enjoy.
Great pictures, eyepopping color. I bet that was a little church experience all its own.

So tell me, are all these digital? Are you using a zoom and then cropping to macro? Secrets are meant to be shared! :)

That is really cool. The most amazing things I've seen in life tend to occur naturally. I think that is why I like your site so much. You capture it well.
