Tender Fingers

I'm growing poppies right here on my office desk. A friend sent me the seeds which I dutifully planted, but I'll have to admit it was with extremely low expectations. Neither one of my thumbs are green and my apartments get very little direct sunlight. To my wondering eyes, in less than a week I found tender seedlings peaking out from the vermiculite-laden potting soil.

You know how they say you have to have a positive attitude to make things happen? Well, it simply isn't true. You can totally not expect something to happen - have no faith at all – and miracles just occur.

Well... on second thought... I guess the act of planting the seeds could be seen as an act of faith, but it was a small act of faith at best. Maybe the point is to just plant. To simply try. Some seeds take, and others don't, but nothin's gonna sprout if you don't get those seeds into the soil. Maybe the less obsessing we do after we plant is better for the plant? Maybe what will be will be? I know... I'm rambling.

Tich Nhat Hahn said that some say walking on water is miracle, but to him walking on earth, the flowers, the sky, are all miracles. Tender miracles reaching out, hoping someone will notice.

{ Is it just me, or does this plant look like the hand of a Dr. Seuss character...? }

Your right, they do look like Dr. Suess hands. Here on the little island where I live, we have a lot of Arbutus trees. They have always reminded me of Dr. Suess trees the way that their branches are all twisty and curly and have tufts of leaves on the end.

Ooh, yes. A Dr Seuss character. You must still be a child at heart if you can still see that kind of stuff.

Your post reminds me of the parable in which Jesus says that faith the size of a mustard seed(which is pretty close to the size of a poppy seed) is plenty. Divine Love is not a size-queen. I like your web site very much! Thank you for sending it out on the ether.
