This past December while my Advent Calendar was in progress, I received the nicest of emails from a woman named Nola. After corresponding with both her and her daughter Jill, I found more than enough synchronistic ties between us to snag my attention. She's a wonderful artist, full of spirit generousity and encouragment.

Soon after my return to DC, I found a package from her in my mailbox. Inside was a publication filled with her drawings, and an envelope with shots of her paintings. As I excitedly looked through them, I was filled with glee. Hey! my new friend is really wonderfully talented!

Since the beginning of my little blog, I've had an idea tucked away inside of my heart that it would be nice to feature the artwork of my artist friends. What a better time to begin than now, with Nola's expressive palette of vibrant reds, blues and oranges? Her work has a whimsical feel, and I love the goat and the cat. The piece at the top is a self-portrait. (The goat made me smile... hope it makes everyone out there smile too!)

If you're interested in contacting her, feel free to post comments here on this entry, or email me directly and I'll pass your questions along to her.

Thanks, Nola, for the wonderful book and your presence in my life via the internet over the holidays! You and your creativity are also a gift to the world!

These paintings are wonderful! And yes, the goat made me smile too. He is so very whimsical!

And what a neat idea, to feature the art of your artist friends — it's a nice way to share!

These paintings have such a wonderful spirit. They recall the wonderful depth of character in Alice Neel's work.

What a vibrant and creative lady. Nola has a true gift of form, color and whimsy. Thanks for sharing this wonderful woman's work. The goat is a smile for sure, the red cart setting off his whiteness and the blue background. thanks for sharing her talent.

Thank you Susan, for honoring my wonderful mom this way. Her paintings have always been the background for my life, and the smell of oil paint always brings me back to the many studios she set up in spare bedrooms in our houses growing up. You are two amazing women in my life and I am blessed to know you both!
Love,
Jill

Well, I love the one that looks like Jill! But I agree that Jill's Mom has surely painted a fine looking goat. What kind of paint is that? I like the way you do it. Love, Janelle

That is a very cool looking self portrait, too.
