This is the chest my maternal great grandmother packed the only possessions she would take on her voyage from Sweden to America. If you look closely, the date is 1889. Her name is painted on the front and reads:
Gertrud Jonsson
Lichtfield, Minn
Nordt America
Something tells me she may have been lucky to be able to afford this chest and bring it along with her. I wonder what she packed inside of it, and what she chose to leave behind.
Understandably, it is my mother's prized possession. And what does she store inside of it? Everything Christmas, of course!
Each December we open it up and pull out our beloved dala horse and the julebuk (straw goat). There are teddy bears, angels, snowmen and assorted holiday knick knacks in there as well! The spirit of the Christmas resides in this box, and whenever it is opened, I know the holiday has truly begun!

I also look forward to opening each day's treasure and am not disappointed. God Jul
