This is the first year we've made Lucia Buns. My mom and I have been threatening to do this for over a decade, and finally DID IT! I forgot how much fun it can be to cook. When I peeked into the oven to see how they were doing I was highly amused, "Mom! These look more like BOOBS than buns... you sure we did this correctly?"
It's a simple recipe, but you have to let the dough rise three times. Apparantly, St. Lucia had some time on her hands. All it takes is some flour, yeast, sugar, milk, egg, saffron and cardomon... and my lord, they smell delicious! See day 13 of the Advent Calendar to find out more about St. Lucia, the Queen of Light.
Here's the Swedish Chef, twirling the dough. "Stop taking pictures!" She pestered me, "My hair isn't done! I have no makeup!" I think she looks adorably festive.

Here's the fancy over-head shot. Martha would be proud.

Here I am taking most of the credit for my mom's hard work. Just to be fair, my hair isn't done and I have no makeup. And if I might say so, my buns ARE delicious!

My co-worker shared your advent calendar with me and each day is the better than the last!
I loved Snowga! Giving a copy to my yoga teacher tomorrow night. He'll love it!
Thanks for reminding me of what the season is all about!
Have a wonderful holiday and happy and healthy 2005!
