Today at dance class, my teacher shimmied up behind me and asked, "Did you have a hot stone massage?"
"What an odd thing to ask," I thought. I didn't look very relaxed, nor was I feel particularly pliable.
She said it again and pointed to my back, "Hot stone massage... you've got marks on your back."
I twisted my torso around to look in the mirror, and was somewhat horrified to find HUGE DOTS all over my back. I resembled a heroine from a Nathaniel Hawthorne novel. (My mother is probably having a heart attack right now. She's coming to visit in about a week, and will surely try to pack me up and take me back to Kansas City... forever.)
The only logical explanation is that I'm sleeping with an octopus. Yes, it's true... I've found true love, and we're very attached to one another.
Actually, I went to see an acupuncturist for the first time a couple days ago, and while zoned out on the table agreed to be "cupped". Hey, if Gwyneth Paltrow can try it, so can I. The procedure was painless, which is why I'm amazed I have these bruises... which of course, HAD to be documented for posterity.
If you haven't had it done, it's pretty interesting & feels a bit weird. The best part is the suction noise the cups make when they come in contact with your skin. "Schshrooooishhhhh," is the most accurate description I can think of.
After the cups are applied, you just sort of lay there in the dark like a whale with 6 glass barnacles stuck to your back. The idea is to get your energy flowing get your Qi moving... aparantly mine is a bit stagnated.
Although I'm not sure it had any medicinal merit, I was completely entertained by the experience, and felt happier than I have in a long time following my session. Cupping Party, anyone? Next Halloween, perhaps?

It really does look like you tangled with an octopus. And, YES, I would like to pack you up and bring you back to Kansas City...........forever. I can readily understand that the experience was interesting.....and I am overjoyed to hear that you are feeling better.
