The Queen of De-Nile

October 26, 2004

There's nothing like trying on your Halloween belly dance costume and looking in the full-length mirror to elicit shrieks of horror. The nine pounds the scale keeps saying I've gained? They REALLY DO EXIST. I've understood this on a cerebral level, but it didn't hit me in the GUT 'til today.

(Everyone join in, "Poor Poor Susan!")

I ask.. HOW can eating things like macaroni and cheese, ziti, and pot pie do this to a girl's waistline? Something is desperately WRONG with the world. I've looked perfectly slim during dance class, which leads me to conclude there are trick mirrors installed at Sahara Dance studio. :-)

I really should be rejoicing ~ the dancers I saw in Egypt three years ago were women of substance. As far as I could tell, it was a requirement to have something to shake and shimmy, and a bit of a belly is considered quite beautiful. They not only accepted their fat, they embraced it. As my extraordinarily wonderful teacher Saphira has said in the past, "I LOVE my fat!" And she should, because no one can shake it like Saphira.

Come on girls... say it with me... "WE LOVE OUR FAT!"

I love some of my fat, but not quite all of it. :)
