I shot this image in the woods just a quarter mile from my home in DC a year ago. Kansas has a simple beauty, big sky and warm people, but a forest like this one is hard to come by. The only path I know of that runs through wooded areas here is asphalt-paved for cyclists. *yikes! asphalt* For me, there’s nothing like walking a well-worn wooded path with exposed roots, rocks and mud beneath my feet. (Does anyone sense some grasping here?) I suppose the solution to this problem would be to get myself a bike – not a bad idea.

Homesick for Kansas or DC?
For DC, but there are many lovely things to investigate here too. Alas, my east coast friends, they are not here, but certainly in my heart.
Yeah. I sense the grasping. I’ve got a little of the wood blues also. Two years ago I moved away from my beloved mountain trails and was also faced with the asphalt biking alternative. I got a bike-nice but…. not the same as the cool uneven earth under your feet. Who knows..maybe its that thing John talks about…clay calling out to clay..
I think it is clay calling to clay, how beautiful you reminded me of that.
